Nigerian Graduate burns his university and NYSC certificates over frustration with a 9-5 job life (Video)

A young Nigerian man has stirred massive reactions online after he set fire to his university and NYSC certificates out of frustration with the harsh realities of 9-5 job life in the country.

In a now-viral video circulating on social media, the aggrieved graduate can be seen tearing and burning his certificates in an open space while voicing out his disappointment over what he described as a “waste of time and effort.”

The young man narrated how he spent seven years in the university, only to graduate with a second class lower, scoring a 3.4 GPA—just shy of the 3.5 required for a second class upper.

He said missing out on a better grade made him feel unlucky. He had dreams of becoming a singer, but when that didn’t work out, he took a 9-5 job hoping for a stable life.

His breaking point came during a recent job interview where he was offered ₦95,000. He complained that ₦60,000 would go just on transport, leaving him with almost nothing to live on.

In a fit of anger and despair, he set fire to his academic and NYSC certificates, declaring his frustration with the state of the country and his circumstances.

In his words, “No regret because why me with 3.4 GPA and 2.5 GPA graduate gather dey second class? I’m always depressed anytime I remember how unlucky I was graduating with 3.4 GPA; so let it go to hell. This country would turn you to a mad person.”

The incident has triggered a wave of reactions on social media, with many sympathizing with his pain while others caution against such extreme actions.
