Arson attack targets ruling party office amid rising election tensions in Cameroon

A ruling party office in western Cameroon was set on fire amid growing unrest following a disputed presidential election. Opposition candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary, a former minister, claims victory over 92-year-old President Paul Biya, accusing the government of massive vote fraud.

The ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (RDPC) rejected his claims and vowed legal action after its Dschang office was burned. Protests have erupted in several cities, including Douala, with clashes between demonstrators and security forces and dozens of arrests.

As the nation awaits official results due October 26, tensions are rising in what has become the biggest challenge to Biya’s 42-year rule, already marred by separatist conflict and corruption.
