Three injured as uncompleted building collapses in Port Harcourt

Three persons have been rescued from the rubble of a two -storey building that collapsed at Okilton Drive, Ada George road in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State in the early hours of today, Thursday June 29.

The three persons who escaped death were said to receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the State capital.

The cause of the collapse of the building which was under construction has not been ascertained and no life was lost.

Also, it was not certain at the time of filing this report whether there were persons still trapped in the rubble.

However, officials of the Rivers State government have visited the area and sealed the construction site.

But Rivers State government has not issued an official statement on the incident.

He said some of the workers had earlier raised the alarm after spotting a crack and brought it to the attention of others.

“Some workers said they noticed some cracks in the building and asked their co-workers who were in the last building. But they didn’t hear because they were playing loud music.

“After that time the building started shaking, so the ones downstairs ran away.

“The next thing the building started collapsing. We just pray that those injured survive,” the resident stated.

Meanwhile as of the time of filing this report, the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Woke had visited the scene.

The commissioner said that the state government will investigate the cause of the building collapse.

When contacted, Eng Woke said he was in a meeting and asked our correspondent to call back in two hours’ time.

“Okay I am in a meeting with my boss. Please call me back in two hours’ time I will respond to you,” he stated.
